While many liberal Democrats criticize President Donald Trump for his prior conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, they forget the wisdom of the old adage about keeping your enemies closest. News of an upcoming conversation between the two world leaders is already causing a stir among some liberals.
President Trump will speak on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday, marking the first known conversation between the two men since Inauguration Day, an official said.
The scheduled chat, confirmed by a Kremlin spokesman to the Washington Post, comes after months of public scrutiny over Trump showering the controversial Russian leader in praise despite the entire U.S. intelligence community concluding that his government interfered in the 2016 election.
White House press aides would not immediately confirm the phone call.
Trump has advocated that Russia will be a strong ally in the war against ISIS, while Putin has expressed hope that the new administration can lift sanctions imposed by President Obama.
