Diversity! Diversity! Diversity!
It seems that everywhere one turns these days, someone is talking about diversity or lack of diversity, but what does it all really mean?
In some ways, pushing diversity really means that the person or group is seeking preferential treatment for their particular group or type of people. Someone labeled it as a form of ‘selective allowable discrimination’.
Over the past few years, students at some colleges and universities have protested and demanded more be done for diversity. In many cases, they are demanding that the schools start discriminating against majority people and give preferential treatment to minorities. They are demanding in the name of diversity that the schools accept more minority students and hire more minority professors. In some of these cases, students are demanding that the schools discriminate against conservative guest speakers in favor of bringing in more liberal and activist speakers.
Remember the Academy Awards a year ago, when so many blacks went ballistic because there were no blacks nominated for the movie industry’s top awards? They were screaming and crying all in the name of diversity. Black activists called for boycotts against many of the top movies nominated and receiving Oscars.
