Last year, a writer accused now First Lady Melania Trump of once working as an escort. She filed a lawsuit against the writer who has now issued an apology and has agreed to settle out of court for a ‘substantial sum.’
A Maryland blogger has been forced to pay a “substantial sum” to First Lady Melania Trump as part of a settlement for a defamation lawsuit, her lawyers said Tuesday.
The deal was reached after writer Webster Griffin Tarpley issued a retraction and an apology for an Aug. 2016 article about unfounded rumors that Melania Trump once worked as an escort.
“I had no legitimate factual basis to make these false statements and I fully retract them,” Tarpley wrote in a statement released by Trump’s lawyers.
The First Lady’s legal team said they’d settled the case against Tarpley after he apologized and agreed to pay “a substantial sum as a settlement.”
